“Speed is the key word for Sorenson’s latest release, unveiled at the Streaming Media East conference in New York City. Squeeze 8.5 averages encoding times 200 percent faster than version 8, the company claims.
The increase comes from a re-architecting of Squeeze that lets it break decoded and compressed video files into chunks, then encode them simultaneously across multiple CPUs. This parallel processing works with single output files transcoding to major formats (including MP4, QuickTime, WebM, and Matroska) and adaptive bitrate encoding.”
