Cisco Sues TiVo Over DVR Patents – Multichannel News

“Cisco Systems this week filed a federal lawsuit against TiVo, seeking to void four of the DVR maker’s patents — including the infamous “Time Warp” patent that Dish Network was found to have infringed — opening a new front in the litigation battle over cable set-tops.

 

TiVo declined to comment.

 

Separately, TiVo is suing two of Cisco’s big service-provider customers — Verizon Communications and Time Warner Cable — alleging patent infringement, and has legal action pending against Motorola Mobility as well.”

Microsoft Smart Glass coming at E3, AirPlay-style streaming from iOS, Android and Windows Phone? – Engadget

“Windows 8 is coming and it features more and better Xbox integration than we’ve yet seen in an operating system from the company — but it looks like Microsoft has something even bigger up its sleeve. We’ve just seen a presentation indicating the company will launch something called Smart Glass next week, a so-called “companion application” that will act much like AirPlay for the Xbox 360.”

The Smart TV manufacturers believe they can help to bring new money to the television industry and the audience at the Connected TV Summit earlier this month agreed with them, with 58% of people saying Connected TV can attract new money and 27% declaring there will be no new money and instead more companies will be fighting for a share of the same pie.

Ikea just published a new YouTube video on Thursday that reveals a few more details about the Uppleva TV set it is going to start selling in select European stores next month. The video was shot at the Milan Furniture Fair, where Ikea showed the device to the public for the first time.”
