Koemei Is Out To Transcribe All Video And Make It Searchable – Techcrunch

“Lord knows there is a lot of online video out there these days, but only a tiny proportion of it has been transcribed (less than 1% according to some estimates). Searching the mountains of video generated by businesses, governments and educational institutions for the valuable information within is almost impossible because the words hidden in the audio are invisible to search. Waiting for it is not just the world, but the many people who can’t access that video because of their disabilities. Transcription unlocks the gold-dust buried in them there video hills.

This would involve transcription on a vast scale, but this is exactly the problem Koemei aims to tackle. It’s a SAAS platform for speech recognition in video. Today at TechCrunch Disrupt it announced it has completed an integration with YouTube’s API in preparation for a potential launch. It also announced the successful completion of its first pilot with the University of Geneva and IMD Business School.”

Adobe Announces Project Primetime Advances, iOS App Support – Streamingmedia.com

“Primetime Simulcast aims to solve two problems for broadcasters: streaming content to online viewers and easily generating revenue from that content. The idea is to reduce costs of streaming with a unified workflow, support a wide variety of formats (such as HDS and HLS, with MPEG DASH coming perhaps next year), and increase viewer engagement with a smooth TV-like experience. With this system, there will be no delay between ads and feature content, just like with a standard TV broadcast. Without that one- or two-second delay, the idea is, there’s less of a chance for viewers to go elsewhere.”

Comcast launches Dayview; your (cool) daily dashboard on TV – GigaOm

“Comcast has released two sweet additions to its home broadband service that allow users to turn their TV into a big-screen home and life dashboard. Using gesture and voice controls, Comcast’s new Dayview service lets users see their email, calendar, any home automation service offerings, etc. on their TVs. It’s kind of like how your caller ID used to pop up on your TV screen when the phone rang, only this can also work when the TV is set in ‘screensaver mode,’ creating an open window on your Comcast services.”
